Our Philosophy

"I am struck by the fact that the more slowly trees grow at first, the sounder they are at the core, and I think that the same is also true of human beings. We do not wish to see children precocious, making great strides in their early years like sprouts, producing a soft and perishable timber, but better if they expand slowly at first, as if contending with difficulties, and so are solidified and perfected. Such trees continue to expand with nearly equal rapidity to an extreme old age." - Henry David Thoreau

The Little Forest Adventures' Philosophy

A nature-immersive learning experience inspiring exploration, wonder, and independence in your child.

Our Values

For young children, play is a critical form of learning. Playtime is when a young child learns how to set goals, how to build a community, how to imagine, how to fail, and how to try again. At Little Forest Adventures, we act as guides who use nature-immersive play to inspire awe and curiosity in your child. When our learners leave our corner of the forest, they leave with a little mud, a lot of stories, a lifelong connection with nature, and a love of learning.

Our Community

The Little Forest Adventures community is a loving, warm environment that values the soft skills of resilience, healthy risk-taking, and kindness over perceived early academic success in young children.  Our learners are empowered to experience the world around them, make plans, and take healthy risks. Our community is there to celebrate their successes and give them a soft place to land if they need to try again.

Our Curriculum

We structure our time based on daily rhythms and the children's curiosity - not rigid lesson plans. When we see leaves falling in the autumn, we’ll take the opportunity to explore deciduous tree cycles. As older children express interest, we’ll teach fort building and knot tying - and enjoy watching the worlds our learners create and listening to the stories they tell.

As a group, we will sing songs that promote number literacy, consonant recognition, seasonal awareness, and syllable counting in our daily circle time.

We will promote the development of positive social-emotional relationship skills by encouraging teamwork and telling stories that model friendship, community, and kindness.
